Founder biography.

Baldvin Oddsson is the founder of The Musicians Club and Brassclub LLC. An trumpet player by training, he founded Brassclub in 2023 with a single observation: most music retail exists on price-and-convenience while leaving the editorial layer — what publisher, what edition, what tradition — entirely unexplained. The Musicians Club is built to invert that: editorial first, transactional second.

The store represents 63 music publishers, sells fine instruments curated against the standard of the conservatory and the concert hall, runs institutional partnership programs for orchestras and conservatories, and operates The Exchange — a peer-to-peer instrument marketplace where professional musicians sell directly to professional musicians.

Story angles we are happy to support.

  • The orchestra librarian who never gets profiled — the working music librarian as the unsung infrastructure of the modern symphony orchestra
  • Beethoven 2027 — the upcoming Bärenreiter critical edition for the 2027 anniversary year, the editorial committee's methodology, the comparison with the Henle blue-cover
  • Urtext as a brand — how four German publishing houses became the global scholarly authority for the Western canon
  • The Hal Leonard pipe — how a single distributor (Hal Leonard) became the print-music conduit for Disney, Universal, and 60+ heritage imprints
  • The peer-to-peer instrument economy — how marketplaces like Reverb, eBay, and our own Exchange are restructuring the way professional musicians upgrade gear
