The Brass Club

Every Brass Instrument, One Stage

From Bb and C trumpets to cornets, flugelhorns, rotary and piccolo trumpets—we cover the full trumpet family. Step down the row to alto, tenor, and bass trombones, then across to French horns, euphoniums, baritones, tubas and sousaphones. Around the instruments you'll find everything that keeps them moving: cases, mutes, mouthpieces, stands, and care kits.

Six Millennia of Brass

From the Egyptian Sneb to the Modern Symphony

Brass is the family with the longest unbroken history in the orchestra. The earliest trumpets — the sneb of pharaonic Egypt, the lurs of the Bronze Age, the buccinas of imperial Rome — were the signaling and ceremonial instruments of empires. They predate written music. They predate the orchestra by three thousand years.

The modern brass section emerged with the chromatic revolution: Heinrich Stölzel and Friedrich Blühmel patented the rotary valve in 1815; the piston valve followed in the 1830s; Adolphe Sax patented the saxhorn family in 1845; Wilhelm Wieprecht built the first true tuba in Berlin in 1835. From that point on, every Bruckner symphony, every Mahler movement, every Wagner opera was scored for the brass section as we know it.

Today that lineage runs through the workshops we carry: Weimann in Germany, Oberrauch in Italy, Carol Brass in Taiwan. We sell the trumpets, the trombones, the horns, the tubas, and the mouthpieces, mutes, and accessories that turn a roomful of metal into the section that finishes the chord at the end of the symphony.
