Alphonse Leduc
Alphonse Leduc — Soir Dans Les Montagnes
A composer and conductor of genius, Eugène Bozza (1905–1991) left us several operas, ballets, large-scale symphonic and choral works, but his worldwide reputation is derived mainly from his many chamber works, written for various instrumental formations with a preference for wind instruments. Composed in 1954, Soir dans les montagnes is the companion piece to Jour dété à la montagne for flute quartet. Imbued with a certain serenity and outdoorsy freshness, it is reminiscent of many of Bozzas other works: for its “pastoral” title, for its character – sometimes calm, sometimes sprightly –, and for an elegant, transparent writing style enlivenedby striking rhythms and motifs.
