The word THAKLA in Arabic refers to a mother's grief over the loss of her child. The work was written in the summer of 2024 as a response to the conflict in Israel, explicitly in recognition of the thousands of children that had been killed at that point. “Music cannot stop violence, but music can reach the listener's heart and remind us of our humanity. When we cannot see all children in the world as our own, we are lost.” - Bruce Adolphe.

Instrumentation: String Octet: 4 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Cellos
