You Are Our Sunlight

Commissioned for a high school choral festival at Virginia Commonwealth University, this lyrical work celebrates the inspiring work of educators. Lyrics use metaphors to illuminate students' love for their teachers. This SATB choral with piano, descant, and optional cello exclaims, “Sunlight illuminates shadows in hidden places we've yet to find. That fire ignites a million flames that spark within our minds...” followed by, “You are our sunlight; you are that fire. You fuel our hopes and spark our dreams; you enlighten and inspire.” It is a perfect choice for a teacher's retirement, a teacher-of-the-year celebration, or any time you'd like to honor the work of educators.
