Fauré initially wrote the Sicilienne as incidental music to Molière's Bourgeois gentilhomme for small-scale string orchestra. In 1898 he wrote an arrangement for cello and piano which enjoys great popularity and belongs to the standard Romantic cello repertoire. This new edition contains fingerings and bowings by Maria Kliegel.
