The New Bach
Edition.
Karl Vötterle founded Bärenreiter to publish the Lutheran chorale repertoire. The press grew through the war years and after 1945 became the editorial home of the Neue Bach-Ausgabe — the complete-works edition that supplanted the 19th-century Bach Gesellschaft as the scholarly reference.
The Neue Mozart-Ausgabe, the new Schubert edition, the new Schumann edition — Bärenreiter publishes the German musicological canon. The yellow-cream cover with the Bärenreiter bear is the visual signature of urtext scholarship.
