Schaum.
Founded 1933 by John W. Schaum. The American piano-method press — the Schaum Piano Course graded primers (red, green, blue, brown), the Note Speller, the Theory Lessons. Two and a half generations of American piano students learnt to read music from the Schaum books.

John W. Schaum's Piano Course — the red Pre-A book, the green A, the blue B, the brown C, plus the leveled Adult and Theory series — was the dominant American piano method of the mid-20th century. The companion Note Speller, Theory Lessons, and Fingerpower books are still on every piano-teacher's supplementary list.
Schaum is still in print, still in regular use, still progressively graded for the working studio. Now part of the Hal Leonard distribution network.
