Listen To The Silence

“Listen to the Silence” is intended for a cappella choirs ranging from high school through professional levels, and may be sung on any occasion, but especially one that celebrates peace, solitude, nature - and above all, silence as a healing balm. Composed in a New Hampshire cabin-studio situated amid fields and forests of breathtaking beauty, the poem portrays silence as an aspect of nature's beauty, drawing attention to natural images that make little or no sound - the sky, moonlight, a colorful sunset, falling snow, breezes wafting through the trees. The piece shares a strong kinship with my earlier piece, Earth Song. Both works serve as a reminder of the fragile gifts of nature that we often overlook in our busy lives.
