Six Shades of Blue — Piano Solo

This work is in the form of six separate movements which can be performed individually or as a set. The blues character is maintained throughout the six preludes: the first and fourth are “cool,” while the third and fifth are “hot.” The second is “slick” and the last is “down.” The idiom is atonal, but the blues focus in the work is made clear by the melodic rhythm and the voice leading.
