Time Flies On Wings Of Lightning
“Time Flies on Wings of Lightning” is an SSAA piece composed by Darla Eshelman, with text by poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox and additional lyrics by the composer. The piano and cello accompaniments are lush and dynamic, supporting the vocal parts with complimentary harmonies. This piece is ideal for advanced high school treble choirs, as well as university women's choirs. It is well suited for either a general concert, or end of the season concert, and is particularly effective as a concert closer. The text, along with beautifully flowing homophonic vocal harmonies, is a deep look into “time” and how we spend it, inviting singers and listeners to live life to the fullest. Part of the Pearl Shangkuan series, this piece reflects Darla Eshelman's distinctive style, with rich and powerful accompaniment, and beautifully constructed harmonic vocal lines. “Time Flies on Wings of Lightning” will create a strong and delightful addition to your repertoire. The piece was commissioned by Chandler High School in Oklahoma and is dedicated to Mary Milburn for her many contributions to the choral art in this community. Composer Darla Eshelman has taught K-12 classroom music and choir, along with university women's choirs for many years.
